‘THE WRITE STUFF’

In year 1 we are continuing our writing journey using the ‘The Write Stuff’ with Jane Considine.

This half term the children will be using the texts Little red Riding Hood and Handa’s Surprise.

Phonics, spelling and reading is still taught through RWI by Ruth Miskin.

Handwriting 

We will be continuing our journey into developing outstanding handwriting. 

Can your child form their letters correctly? If you would like to practice ask your class teacher for some handwriting lines.

We teach the handwriting in letter groups.

The straight family -i,l,t,j

The coathanger family - c, o, a, d, q, e

The bridge family - n, m, r, h, b, k, p

The zig zag family - v, w

The smile family - u, y

The misfits - s, f, x, z

WOW DAY!

The children were so excited to have a special visitor on their WOW DAY. Ladybug the Super Hero came to school. The children had activity sessions with her finding out what it meant to be a super hero and how they can be real life super heros.

      

SCIENCE

In Science the children will be learning about key parts of the body. When you are with your child see if they know all the parts of their body from eyelashes, eyelids to toes, ankles, elbows. 

Parts of the Body Vocabulary, Verbs, Idioms - English Vocabulary

They are also learning about the 5 senses. 

  • touch
  • smell
  • taste
  • sight
  • hearing

They will use the senses to experiment and find things out.

INTERACTION: THE NERVOUS SYSTEM AND THE SENSE ORGANS

 

HISTORY

In History this half term the children will be thinking about themselves and how they change as they grow up.

They will explore what young people need as they grow from babies needing care to becoming independent.

They will think about what activities people do as they grow and change from being a baby to being a grown up.

Maybe they could bring in a baby photo to share with the class.

 

ART

In Art the children will be thinking about their faces and learning how to draw a self portrait.

The children will be looking at portrait styles through Artists like Andy Warhol and Vincent Van Gogh

MATHS

  • Counting forwards and backwards, 1 more, 1 less.
  • Number bonds/ stories to 10 (all numbers ot 10)
  • Addition and subtraction
  • Problem solving involving addition and subtraction
  • Money

     

Help at home

  • telling the time. O’clock.
  • recognising coins
  • counting forwards and backwards

 

E-Safety

It is still a high priority of ours to teach the children how to safely access the internet.

Please keep a look out at home what your child is accessing online. For more information on e-safety please access the E-safety page on our website.

Home Learning

Your child will bring home a home learning bingo board next week in a book.

Over this half term you choose an activity a week to complete with your child in the book.

At the end of the half term bring the home learning book back to school for the teacher to see.

If your child completes the home work they could be chosen for a home work prize!!

Helping your child with

reading

Your child’s reading book will be changed every Monday. They will also bring a  lending library book home too. 

Remember to read every day with your child. This could be you reading to them or them reading to you.

Reading Challenge

At the end of the week if your child has read at least 3 times they will get a reading sticker.  If they keep this up over the half-term, they will also get a reading prize. Please remember to write in your child's reading record when they have read.
