‘THE WRITE STUFF’

We will be continuing our Write Stuff units in Writing sessions.

This half term the children will learn to write a non fiction report about TOYS using the text ‘Toys and games’ by Sally Hewitt

They will be learning to write fiction pieces through the story 'Pinocchio' by Katie Daynes.

WOW Afternoon

The children had a fantastic afternoon painting, exploring toys. They talked about the toys they loved to play with.

Handwriting 

Wow! The children have been working so hard on their handwriting. They have been working on formation and size of writing.

MATHS

  • ·Number facts  to 10. recalling all facts speedily.
  • Sequences and counting in 2's and 10's.
  • Addition and subtraction
  • Adding 3 single digit numbers together.
  • Number pairs and doubles

Help at home telling the time. O’clock, half past, recognising coins, recognising and naming shapes.

The children are beginning to use a tens frame to add and take away.

WOW DAY!

The children started the 'Toys' topic off with a WOW day on the first Friday back. They had a fantastic time looking at toys today and their features. For example, what are they made of? Do they move? How do they work? Who would play with them? What is your favourite toy?

On Monday 3rd February we are taking the children to Peterborough Museum for a day to look at Toys from the past. This will be a great chance to develop their History knowledge further.

SCIENCE

Materials

Why are objects made out of different materials?

The children will continue their Science topic about materials this half term. They will move on from naming objects and materials to  describing simple physical properties. They will then explore and compare materials in order to  group them.

 

 

 

 

History

How have toys changed over the years?

What toys did our Great Grandparents play with? Can your child talk to you and other family members about the toys you used to play with? Have they changed to today? What were they made from? What could they do?

In this topic the children will explore toys from the past and present. They will handle artefacts at school and on the museum trip. The children will form an understanding a basic time line using toys.

Design and Technology

In this unit the children will be developing their understanding if joining materials in different ways whilst thinking about mechainism

Can you design and create a pop up book with a moving part?

They will explore a range of  pop up books looking at the different ways the pop up part is developed.

They will think about who would want to read a pop up book. What will it be made out of? They will explore sliders, pop up and levers.

 

They will design and make a book up book to share with someone. This could be the younger children in the school or a family member.

Computing

The children will continue to explore how we can use technology through the curriculum. eg. maths games, espresso, purple mash, bbc bitesize, phonics play.

In computing lessons the children will cover.....

Unit 1.3 Pictograms using 2count

Unit 1.5 Maze explorers using 2go

Unit 1.6 Animated storybooks 2create a story

You will find your child's username for purple mash in their reading Record. They will be able to show you at home what skills they are working on.

PSHE

This half-term the children will be completing their PSHE units on.......

Healthy and safer lifestyles and Sex and relationships Education

The children will talk about how their body works and how they keep their body clean.

They will also be naming body parts and understanding some of the body functions. Please be reminded that, as a school, in consultation with parents, we decided to only use the term 'private parts' in order to name sexual parts of the body. For more information, please see our RSE Policy, which can be found on the PSHE Curriculum page on the school website.

E-Safety

It is still a high priority of ours to teach the children how to safely access the internet.

Please keep a look out at home what your child is accessing online.

The children will also continue to build on their understanding of e-safety and the importance this has when using the Internet and technology.

If you would like any information about E-safety please ask your class teacher and Mrs Talbot can help you.

Home Learning

Home learning takes place through  our yellow Home learning Log books,. PLEASE make sure you have brought this back to school so their new tasks can be stuxck in.

Please choose an activity each week to complete from the range of activities provided. 

Last half term it was great to give out home work prozes to some children who completed some amazing homework.

Helping your child with

reading

Your child’s reading book will be changed every Monday. They will also bring a lending library book home too. 

Remember to read every day with your child. This could be you reading to them or them reading to you.

Don't forget the importance of reading to your child. Bedtime story time is a wonderful time to share reading.

Reading Challenge

We have had more children receiving book prizes for reading 3 reads at home each week. Remember to keep a note in your child's reading record.

At the end of the week if your child has read at least 3 times they will get a reading sticker.  If they keep this up over the half-term, they will also get a reading prize. Please remember to write in your child's reading record when they have read. 

 

Don't forget to look at the ideas on how to read with your child. If you have any questions please come and ask your teacher.
